New lesson plans from my first year of teaching

I’m fairly certain that I’ll be able to refine these lessons next year and add new ones to enrich my stockpile.

I teach kindergarten here in Norfolk and we’ve managed to learn some basic elements and principles.  Overall I’m pleased.

First grade has been a blessing, they are so open to experimenting with different mediums.

Second grade has been challenging, I have to really nudge them along and keep them motivated.  “I can’t” seemed to be the mantra at the beginning of the year.  I changed that.

Third grade, what happens to kids at eight?  They are goofballs! Third grade was fun and challenging.  We had a good time learning about the world’s cultures and their reasons for making art.

The fourth grade students at this school are great and they are serious.  Community was our big idea and we did many projects involving many mediums.

The fifth grade has been a serious challenge.  I hope that I rose to that challenge and taught them something.  Identity was the big idea and we tapped into many contemporary resources!
